The validity of repatriation cover is assessed in relation to the duration and main place of stay chosen by the foreign national. In the event of a significant change to the main place of stay and where, as a result, the cover initially provided is clearly insufficient to cover repatriation costs, the person concerned must provide new documents guaranteeing that the costs of returning to the country of his/her usual residence will be covered.
The foreign national must be in possession of the documents relating to his/her repatriation cover for the duration of his/her stay. This obligation is waived when the foreign national is issued with a residence permit valid for at least one year. In addition, if the person concerned can prove a legitimate reason, the prefect of the département in which he or she is staying may terminate this obligation.
