Updated 8 Nov 2023

I.- Registration for a sporting competition authorised by a delegated federation or organised by an approved federation is, subject to II and III of this article, subject to presentation of a licence allowing participation in competitions organised by a sports federation mentioned in article L. 231-2 in the discipline concerned.

II.- For adults who do not hold a licence, registration may be subject to presentation of a medical certificate stating that there are no contraindications to practising the discipline concerned.For adults who do not hold a licence, registration may be subject to presentation of a medical certificate stating that there are no contraindications to practising the discipline concerned.

III. -Following the simple opinion of a collegiate body competent in medicine, the federations mentioned in article L. 131-8 lay down the following in their federal regulations:

1° The conditions under which a medical certificate may be required;

2° The nature, frequency and content of the medical examinations required to obtain this certificate, depending on the type of participant and sport;

3° The list of licences issued by other approved or delegated federations allowing participation in the sporting competitions which they organise or authorise or which are subject to authorisation for persons of legal age.

IV.By way of derogation from II and III of this article, when a sporting competition organised or authorised by an approved sports federation or subject to authorisation for persons of full age takes place, for the part on French territory, on the territory of one or more border departments, the participants are subject to the regulations of their place of residence with regard to registration conditions.

V.-For minors without a licence, without prejudice to article L. 231-2-3, registration is subject to the completion of a questionnaire relating to the state of health of the minor athlete, completed jointly by the minor and the persons exercising parental authority.

Common Questions

Working with a corporate lawyer in France — Q&A

Any time a strategic decision changes how the company is owned, governed or contractually bound — incorporation, fundraising, M&A, restructuring, shareholder agreements, or major commercial contracts. Earlier engagement always costs less than later remediation.

A notary (notaire) is a public officer who authenticates specific deeds (mainly real-estate transfers and certain family-law acts). A corporate lawyer (avocat) advises on strategy, negotiates and drafts company documents, and represents you in disputes. The two roles complement rather than overlap.

Yes — most of our clients are foreign suppliers, investors or holding entities. We bridge the gap between French law and your home jurisdiction's expectations and deliver everything bilingually.

The SAS (Société par Actions Simplifiée) is the default choice for most international structures: flexible governance, single shareholder allowed, no minimum capital, and works cleanly with foreign holding entities. We assess SARL, SA, SCI on the merits when the situation calls for it.

Yes — communications with a French avocat are protected by the secret professionnel (Article 66-5 of the Law of 31 December 1971). This protection is broader than the common-law attorney-client privilege and applies to written and oral exchanges.

We work on fixed fees for clearly scoped engagements (incorporation, contract drafting, audits) and on monthly retainers for ongoing advisory. Hourly billing is the exception, not the default. You always know the cost before work starts.

Typical timeline is 2–3 weeks from KYC kick-off to RCS registration, assuming standard documentation. Holding-company structures, foreign-shareholder identification or in-kind contributions can extend this — we flag the gating items at the first meeting.

Absolutely. We routinely coordinate with your in-house counsel, expert-comptable or notaire — pragmatic collaboration is the norm, not the exception. We send them everything they need to do their part without duplicating work.
